A lot of small business owners never start advertising because of one worry: what if I waste the money? It is a fair concern, and the good news is that with a sensible budget and a little patience you can learn what works for very little.
Start with what you can afford to lose
Think of your first budget as tuition. You are paying to find out which audience, message, and offer work for your business. So pick an amount you would be comfortable writing off completely if it taught you nothing. For most small businesses that lands somewhere between $5 and $20 a day.
That is enough to gather real data within a couple of weeks without betting the business on an ad you have not tested yet.
Give it enough data to judge
Do not decide an ad has failed after a day. Meta’s system needs data to optimise, and so do you. A reasonable rule is to keep an ad running until it has produced roughly 50 to 100 results (clicks, leads, whatever you are optimising for) before you judge it.
Our ad cost calculator can tell you roughly how long your budget will take to get there. If it would take months, nudge the daily budget up.
A simple way to start
Pick one goal first, whether that is website visits, leads, or messages, rather than trying to do everything at once. Set a daily budget you are comfortable with; $10 a day is a fine default. Then let it run for a week or two without fiddling every day, because constant edits reset the learning phase and cost you results.
Once you have enough data, read it honestly. Put more money behind whatever worked and cut whatever did not. When you scale, raise the budget gradually, around 20 to 30 percent at a time, so delivery stays stable.
Cap your spend so you can’t overshoot
The other half of budgeting is protection. With Five Minute Ads, every launch runs against a prepaid wallet and sends Meta a hard spend cap, so a campaign can never quietly overrun what you funded. You only ever spend what you put in.
That safety net is what makes starting small feel safe. When you are ready, you can launch your first ad without touching Ads Manager in a few minutes. Start free whenever you want to try it.
